How Does Bandwidth Tie in with Web Hosting
Bandwidth and data transfer are two terms you may frequently come across in web hosting. These two terms are closely related, but have different meanings.
When you talk about bandwidth, it is the amount of data that can be transferred at a time. However in the case of data transfer, it is the amount of data that is actually being transferred.Web hosting companies however use the term bandwidth to advertise how much of data they let you transfer in a month.
When you go through the plans offered by web hosting companies, you will find some of them measuring the amount of bandwidth your site can use.It is the number of gigabytes that the company will offer you in a month that is displayed in this amount. So if a company offers you 5 GB per month, the amount of data transfer that takes place in your site should not exceed 5 GB.
There are many web hosting companies that lure customers with ‘unlimited bandwidth’.However you usually find many rules leading to limitations of their bandwidth after you go through the terms and conditions of the company.
One such rule of most web hosting companies is the provision of unlimited bandwidth to you only with acceptable usage. However it is only later on that you find that this ‘acceptable usage’ is basically less than the arbitrary amount of bandwidth you are allotted every month.Once you exceed this limit, you have to pay a surcharge.
Then there are some web hosting companies that pose restrictions on the type of site you can offer. While some web hosting companies don’t let you use graphics and heavy page on the site, there are some web hosting companies that have limitations on the number of pages you use on your site.It is only if you are sure you can stick to the restrictions set by these plans for not only the present, but also the future should you use these plans.

What Amount of Hosting Do You Need?

When people look into hosting they are overwhelmed on how much space and bandwidth is available and at the prices. Many times people can get confused on how much of each is needed for their use.
So we are here today to talk about how to rationalize what you exactly need in web hosting. After reading this you will be able to purchase a package that is inline in what you need.
First up is how big is your web site going to be. When you build your first site it will be smaller than you first thought. Many people get caught up in the graphics and video you think is best for your site. But be realistic in web hosting first making those are harder than you can imagine and second you don’t want to make your website so big it is hard for people to download. Many people are still not on fast access internet and you do not want to make your site take forever to load. Your website should not be any larger than 500k. So purchasing 10 Megs worth of space would be plenty.
The next question is the amount of visitors you will get. A goal of 1,000 visitors would be plenty. This can be hard but done if you catch a break on the way. So if you have a 1,000 people a month visiting your site at 500k you can figure out the bandwidth you need for your web hosting.
I’m assuming it is a lot less than you ever imagined. You do not need to purchase larger packages when starting off. Purchasing enough for the start and for some small expansion will be enough and you can upgrade with time.
